Sex Toys: Are They Safe?

Sex toys are a great way not only to relax, but also to add spicy notes to your sex life. You can get to know your body, explore what you like. For transgender, nonbinary, or gender nonconforming people, certain sex toys may help affirm their gender identity or help relieve gender dysphoria. Sometimes people use sex toys to help them masturbate. People also use sex toys during sex with their partners. But sometimes these games can be dangerous.

There are many kinds of toys, the most popular are:

  • Vibrators
  • Dildos
  • Anal toys
  • Sleeves
  • Penis rings
  • Pumps
  • Ben Wa balls
  • Packers
  • Harnesses
  • And etc

Sex toys can be an option for you. But you have to be careful!

It is necessary to read the instructions before use!

The most common problem is that the toy is stuck in the anus or vagina.

 If you have such a situation, carefully try to get the item.  If you can't get it, you need to call an ambulance, otherwise you could hurt yourself. If you were able to remove the toy, we also recommend that you check that the parts of the toy have not broken off.

International Organization for Standartization (ISO) introduced standards for the quality of sex toys.  ISO 3533: Sex toys — Design and safety requirements for products in direct contact with genitalia, the anus, or both.

Some of the requirements to meet this standard include:

  • Making sure plugs, beads, and things that go up the anus can't stay up there, or could be retrieved by a medical professional if needed
  • That things like chastity cages and cock rings can be removed with pliers or other common household tools in an emergency—no power tools needed
  • Toys with heating elements must never exceed 118 degrees Fahrenheit (the temperature that would cause a first-degree burn)
  • Anything going around or in any holes or genitals should be "smooth and be free from burrs and sharp edges."

Recommendation: use a lubricant! If you’re using a sex toy in your anus, make sure you use lots of lube.

Don’t use silicone lube with silicone sex toys!

Another problem is allergies!

 Very often people are allergic to latex.  Please note, this is very important. Latex allergy may cause itchy skin and hives or even anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening condition that can cause throat swelling and severe difficulty breathing. Your doctor can determine if you have a latex allergy or if you're at risk of developing a latex allergy. Toys for allergy sufferers are made of different materials, so pay attention to this.

Be sure to read what material the product is made of!

Especially dangerous toys for BDSM.

Most dangerous materials are made from a mixture of many ingredients and it's impossible to know what they are without an expensive lab test. Many are manufactured in China and have no available description of their materials.

Buy toys only in specialty stores!

The next step to your safety is the hygiene of your toys.

Hygiene is very important! Many diseases can be acquired if you do not follow the usual rules.

 Main rules:

  • wash sex toys with soap before and after each use;
  • put condoms on penetrating sex toys, such as vibrators (even after washing toys with porous material can remain pathogenic microorganisms);
  • if you use a toy for different parts of the body (for vaginal, anal and oral sex), wash it before each change;
  • do not share sex toys;
  • if you have several sexual partners - use different toys with each.

Choose a quality product! Your health depends on it. Be sure to pay attention to quality and material. Take care of your toys and wash them. Use them for yourself or your partner to get a great experience, new sensations and pleasure.

Be careful!

Enjoy!
