The best queer spots in New York City
New York City is a massive city that cannot possibly be summed up in one article, but that does not mean that we cannot try. The gay scene in NYC is unlike any other city in the world. There are tons of gay bars, drag shows, and themed parties for just about any kind of person. If you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community, there is a special space just for you in this glorious city.
Another great part about the gay scene in NYC is that everyone looks different. People have different styles; people like different things. It does not feel like a homogenous group because it isn’t. If you want to look your best, no matter what you look like, you certainly need to check out our variety of products so you can be ready for your next night out.
Neighborhoods
If you are looking for somewhere to stay, check out MisterBnB in one of these neighborhoods. This is a platform similar to Airbnb, but designed by and for the LGBTQ+ community.
Greenwich Village
Greenwich Village is the gayest part of the gayest city. Here you will find the legendary Stonewall Inn, where the 1969 riots occurred that began the fight for LGBTQ rights. The village has long been known for its colorful, eccentric residents that are passionate about culture and equality. Stroll through the streets during the day to find some of the best iced coffee you will ever drink.
Hell’s Kitchen
One of the most popular gay bars in the city is located in Hell’s Kitchen. The Ritz Bar and Lounge always draws a crowd until early in the morning. This neighborhood really comes alive at night, when the many gay bars open their doors. If the Ritz isn’t your type of place, you can visit one of the other gay bars in Hell’s Kitchen – there are too many to choose from.
Brooklyn
Williamsburg and Bushwick are both great neighborhoods for finding queer spots on every corner. Elsewhere has live music and an atmosphere like no other. You can also find many drag brunches in Brooklyn, as well as some incredible nightlife, like 3 Dollar Bill.
Events
Drag Shows
You can find a great drag show anywhere in the city, but each one has its own distinct vibe. According to Miz Cracker, contestant of RuPauls Drag Race season 10, three of the five best drag bars are located in Hell’s Kitchen.
It is worth it to squeeze in a show in some capacity. Whether you opt for a bottomless drag brunch in Chelsea or a late night drag show in Brooklyn, you really cannot go wrong. Make sure to bring lots of cash to tip the queens!
Pride
The NYC Pride March will be held in June. But that is just the march – pride is a weekend or even weeklong event. If you live in the city, you know all about it. If you are visiting for pride weekend, you will want to round up all of your friends to join you. After all, pride is all about community.
We recommend visiting a bottomless drag brunch on the Saturday of pride weekend to kick things off. You will absolutely need to purchase tickets in advance, as these are likely to sell out quickly. Keep the party going by having an espresso martini at one of the many cocktail bars in the Lower East Side, before partying the night away in Hell’s Kitchen.
Once you’ve had your iced coffee on Sunday, head to Washington Square Park in your gayest attire so you can mingle, drink, and feel like you are part of something truly special. Be prepared for anything by using one of our Body Butters so your skin glows and you smell amazing.
Tours
If you have time to kill and want to hit all the famous gay spots in the city, try out a tour. You can learn all about the vibrant gay history of the city, meet some fellow LGBTQ+ travelers, and get recommendations for spots to hit while you are in town.
The Bottom Line
Being queer in New York is a really magical thing. It is one of the few places in the world where you feel accepted and appreciated no matter where you go. It does not matter what you look like, how you dress, what your gender identity or sexuality is. The city is there to root for you and you can feel the energy vibrating throughout each neighborhood.
