A Guide to Gay Berlin

Considered the gay capital of the world in the 1920s, Berlin has a long queer history and is still a vibrant hub of LGBTQ+ culture. Berlin was known for its decadence and thriving queer culture during the golden era of the Weimar Republic in the first half of the 20th century. Now, in many ways, Berlin’s queer scene is still the largest and most vivacious in all of Europe, making it the European LGBTQ+ capital. From gay nightlife to museums to saunas, there is no end to the variety of queer culture present in Berlin.

There are so many LGBTQ+ hot spots and events happening in Berlin that it can feel a bit overwhelming to choose what to experience first, which is why we created this guide for you. We don’t want you to miss out on the best that Berlin has to offer, and we want you to look and feel your best while rubbing elbows with Berlin’s sexy gays. Before you travel to this wonderous destination, you can indulge in our body butters, booty scrubs, and beard oils to ensure that you feel like your most stunning self in this gay capital.

Gay Nightlife

Berlin’s nightlife is infamous for its sex parties, kinky fetish parties, and dance parties that can last up to 48 hours, sometimes even longer. So, of course, there is a plethora of gay clubs and queer parties to choose from on any night of the week in Berlin.

If you are in the mood for a massive party, check out the legendary Schwuz club. This gay club has three large dance floors, each playing different music, so it’s like 3 parties for the price of 1.

If you are looking for a cute place to have a few drinks, the maximalist and kitschy décor of Silver Futures is a must see. This welcoming bar has a very eclectic and diverse clientele and a delightfully absurdist retro vibe that sets the mood for a quirky good time.

Lastly, if some gay cruising is on your agenda, you can check out Lab-oratory next to the legendary Berghain nightclub. This is the world’s largest gay cruising destination equipped with dark rooms, glory holes, cages, slings and much more. Let’s just say it’s not for the faint of heart. Be sure to check out our Sweet Hole products so that you will taste just right for this wild ride.

Gay Culture

To get a taste of Berlin’s queer history, you can walk around the Schöneberg neighborhood. In the streets surrounding the Nollendorfplatz U-bahn station, you will find memorials of the gays and lesbians who were persecuted during the second world war as well as various statues and street art dedicated to famous queer people.

For a more in-depth look into Berlin’s queer history and contemporary queer culture, you can go to the Schwules museum. This museum is also a research center that is dedicated to focusing on LGBTQ+ history and culture. Established in 1985, it was the first museum in the world to focus entirely on the queer community.

Lastly, to have a truly European experience, you must go to a sauna. Der Boiler is a prime spot to find some steamy action with its maze-like cruising area for men and crisp, clean interiors. Make sure your skin is in tip-top shape for the sauna by trying out our body butters and booty scrubs.

Pride Festivities

Last but not least, its’ time to talk about gay pride in Berlin. First, you need to know that Berlin’s gay pride festivities are celebrated throughout the year, not just in June. There are numerous pride parties and festivals for every flavor of queer imaginable. From the BDSM pride festival happening during Easter to Dyke Marches to Pink Christmas, Berliners celebrate their queerness all year round. Of course, the biggest of these festivals is the Christopher Street Day parade, which is the largest LGBTQ festival happening in Europe. Happening every July, Christopher Street Day always has the main parade with drag queens and floats sponsored by companies and speeches by politicians just like many Pride parades in North America. However, there are also alternative demonstrations that happen every year around the CDS parade. These demonstrations are primarily focused on celebrating trans people, queer migrants, and other marginalized queer people who aren’t always represented during corporate pride events. Regardless of your flavor of queer, there will be a place for you to celebrate your uniqueness with pride in Berlin.

Now that you know what you’re missing out on if you don’t visit Berlin, be sure the check out our various wellness products so that you can flaunt your best self in this gay capital.
